Our ability to be self aware is developed in early childhood. When we are children we are made to feel that the world is all about us. Our parents teach us that we are unique and, that they will provide for all of our needs. However, we are usually told that thinking about others is a nice thing to do. We can say that for most part of our early years, we are as children quite self-centered . This changes during adulthood. Because as adults , we begin to look inside of ourselves, for answers. We begin to work at providing for our own emotional needs. As we further mature, we learn not only who we are, but what we need. We discover what we are good at. We then decide what are our unique values, motivations, strengths and weaknesses. This internal sense of awareness, helps us navigate the world. However learning this self-awareness is a lifelong process. On this journey you will discover that there are at least two levels of self-awareness that you will need to develop, the external, and the internal. As you move ahead in your journey, you should consider both types of self- awareness. For both types are necessary in your journey to self.
